Licensing:

Each product is licensed in a different way and also depends on the role of the user (student or employee).

ArcGIS Desktop
student

Annual license. License number is available in INET in the Software section.

ArcGIS Desktop
employee

Annual or concurrent license (borrowed from ICS license servers).

ArcGIS Pro
student

License for the entire study assigned to UČO. Can be verified by membership in ArcGIS_studenti group.

ArcGIS Pro
employee

Concurrent license or license assigned to UČO. Can be verified by membership in ArcGIS_zamestnanci group.

A one-year student license (single use) for ArcGIS Desktop and its regular renewal can be quite complicated. The whole process is completely described in the instructions for students (First installation and authorization, Renewal). ArcGIS Pro authorization is also described in detail, but it is very simple, unlike Desktop (ArcGIS Pro installation and authorization).

Concurrent use licenses for employees are assigned from ICS license servers. Their URLs are listed in the manuals (ArcGIS Desktop Installation and Authorization, ArcGIS Pro Installation and Authorization).

Annual licenses (single use) are similar to student annual licenses. This means that ArcGIS can be used offline all year, but you must renew the license number every year. More information in the reauthorization manual.

You can easily verify the assigned ArcGIS Pro license (bounded to UČO) in the IS MU in Groups Of People. If you find the ArcGIS_studenti or ArcGIS_zamestnanci group in the list, you have a license. In the ArcGIS application, you only need to log in via the MUNI Unified Login. Otherwise, contact the ArcGIS University License Administrator (see below).

Information for teachers:
In the case of students, the ArcGIS Pro license can be assigned collectively for the entire study program, field, subject or seminar group. In the case of employees, it can be assigned, for example, for a given workplace or for teachers of a given subject, seminar groups, etc. It is enough to supply university license administrators with the field / subject / workplace code. The Groups of People application itself creates a list of UČOs to which the license should be assigned. These lists are recalculated every day so that they can react to changes flexibly. This is useful, for example, at the turn of months or semesters, when a license needs to be activated for a larger number of new people.

Premium Services and Credits:

ArcGIS Pro allows you to use so-called premium services. You can find these services in specific geoprocessing tools which require you to be logged in into ArcGIS Pro. However, the provision of these premium services is for a fee in the form of credits. Each MU user is assigned a default number of those credits per license year.

You can view the current number of credits in your ArcGIS Online profile.

A list of geoprocessing tools that consume credits (including unit prices) can be found on the ESRI website.

Web GIS -
ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS

Both products are part of the so-called web GIS. Simply put, these are web GIS in which it is possible to store data, share it, create maps and map applications and then publish it. Authorization management according to defined user types, roles and belonging to a group is a matter of course. Groups are key to sharing content within the portal. Login to both systems takes place via the MU Unified Login.

Key differences:

ArcGIS Online is a cloud service located in America. It is licensed primarily for academic use. Updates take place in a standard period defined by the life cycle. It includes more features than the University Portal for ArcGIS.

In contrast, Portal for ArcGIS is installed on the machines of the Institute of Computer Science, ie. uses the university infrastructure. It is licensed under an administrative license with a limited number of users authorized to edit. It allows direct sharing of data from the Enterprise geodatabase (for example, university passport data stored in it).

Licensing and Authorization:

Each product is licensed in a different way and also depends on the role of the user (student or employee).

Licenses with editing rights (so-called GIS Professional) are immediately assigned to ArcGIS Online. Only read licenses (so-called Viewer) are assigned to Portal for ArcGIS. Editing rights are granted on request.

ArcGIS Online
student

License for the entire study assigned to UČO. Can be verified by membership in ArcGIS_studenti group.

ArcGIS Online
employee

License assigned to UČO. Can be verified by membership in ArcGIS_zamestnanci group.

Portal for ArcGIS
student

License for the entire study assigned to UČO by the first sign in.

Portal for ArcGIS
employee

License assigned to UČO by the first sign in.

Each user is also assigned a role. For internal purposes, students and staff have their own roles, namely _STUDENT, _UCITEL, which are identical to the predefined Publisher role. It has the second highest authorization, right after the Administrator.

Premium Services and Credits:

ArcGIS Online allows you to use so-called premium services as well (premium analysis). However, the provision of these premium services is for a fee in the form of credits. Each MU user is assigned a default number of those credits per license year.

You can view the current number of credits in your ArcGIS Online profile.

See the ArcGIS Online article for more information.

Other Applications from the ArcGIS Portfolio

The ESRI University License contains a much broader portfolio than the applications listed above. They can be divided into five categories with more than one representative. The list is not complete, the complete portfolio can be found on the ESRI product pages.

Mobile Applications

ArcGIS FieldMaps

  • Field application for mobile data collection and editing, searching for resources and information and reporting their location in real time.
  • It therefore enables the creation of a map for field work, its use in data collection in the field, location search and location tracking.
  • It combines together the original ArcGIS Collector, Explorer and Tracker applications with the vision of ArcGIS Workforce and Navigator integration.
  • You can work online and offline, data is synchronized to ArcGIS Online.

ArcGIS Survey123

  • Form application for creating, sharing and analyzing questionnaire surveys.
  • The questionnaire can be enriched with a map component, ie. precisely localized data can be collected. Together with GPS, it is ideal for localized field research.

ArcGIS QuickCapture

  • Application for fast data collection using preset events. These are represented on the main page by tiles. The user simply selects the event, the current location of the phone is automatically saved to it, he can add a photo, etc.

Web Applications

ArcGIS Insights

  • Analytical tool for map visualization together with graphs and tables.
  • The basic process is the interconnection of data from various sources and their subsequent analysis.
  • It is part of ArcGIS Online, where it also stores data and visualizations. Therefore, sharing them is very easy.

ArcGIS Dashboards

  • Application clearly displays maps with accompanying data, tables and graphs on one screen.
  • It, therefore, serves as an overview application over data, eg. for dispatching, screens at building entrances, etc.
  • It also integrates very well with continuously changing data.
  • It is part of ArcGIS Online.

ArcGIS StoryMaps (Maps with a story)

ArcGIS Notebooks

  • A tool for creating, sharing, and running Python programs and scripts.
  • Supports scripting using arcpy library and ArcGIS API for Python.
